Electric Fishing Certificate

Electric fishing is a tool used by Regional councils, Department of Conservation and water management consultants to survey fresh water streams for species diversity and numbers. Learn the theory behind the equipment and how to apply it safely in the field, and gain certification in operating an electric fishing machine.

Practical Training

The course consists of approximately 60% tuition and 40% hands-on use of machines in various rivers, streams and ponds located around the Warkworth area.

 

 

 

 

 

Qualification

Successful applicants will receive:

  • Mahurangi Technical Institute Certificate of Competency in Electric Fishing Machine Operation
  • Unit standard: 20468.

Duration:

3 days.

 

Class Size:

Minimum course numbers = 4

Entry Requirement:

Candidates must be physically fit and hold a current First Aid Certificate.

Fees:

Domestic students: NZ$690 including GST. Includes transport during the course to various fishing spots; tuition and documentation.

 

Accreditation:

Course unit is accredited by the New Zealand Qualification Authority (NZQA).
